CS Duale convenes high-level talks on health sector issues

It was resolved that the Digital Health Agency will evaluate existing health information systems in counties and fast-track the digitalization of all health facilities across Kenya’s 47 counties.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale convened a consultative session today (April 14, 2025) with the Council of Governors (CoG) Health Committee, chaired by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi.
The meeting was meant to address pressing issues within the health sector.
The discussions focused on key priorities, including the operationalization of the Social Health Authority (SHA), the digitization of healthcare services, and the integration of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) personnel.
These areas are vital for enhancing healthcare delivery and advancing ongoing national health reforms.
The meeting resulted in a consensus on several critical matters.
It was resolved that the Digital Health Agency will evaluate existing health information systems in counties and fast-track the digitalization of all health facilities across Kenya’s 47 counties.

This move aims to bolster the implementation of both current and future health initiatives.
Regarding the SHA, the meeting reached an agreement to prioritize increased funding for emergency, chronic, and critical illness cases.
Additionally, resources will be allocated for the training and capacity building of Level 2 and Level 5 health facility managers on registration processes, system optimization, and SHA product offerings.
These actions are in line with the broader objectives of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which seeks to strengthen Kenya’s health system.
CS Duale reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to the health and well-being of all Kenyans, highlighting that partnerships with county governments are essential for effective healthcare delivery.
He also stressed the need for integrity, transparency, and accountability within the health sector.
The CS emphasized the crucial role of human resources in the successful implementation of the Taifa Care Model and committed to collaborating with counties to address any challenges in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni; Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Harry Kimtai; and Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth.
Also present were CoG Vice-Chairperson and Nyeri Governor, Mutahi Kahiga, along with other senior officials.
